KOMPAN Wins Two Design Awards for Outdoor Fitness Equipment

KOMPAN, the leading manufacturer of outdoor playground and fitness equipment, won two Australian Good Design Awards in the 2021 Product Design Sport and Lifestyle category for its outdoor elliptical and arm cycle.

Cross trainer
KOMPAN Cross Trainer (photo above) offers one of the best ergonomics on the market and allows people of all ages and fitness levels to freely participate in cardiovascular training in outdoor public spaces. The trainer offers three user positions, including a sprint mode, and users can also train against ten adjustable resistance levels.

The Good Design Awards jury noted “It’s great to see the development of self-powered fitness equipment that can be connected to smart devices. This new concept is the gateway to a world of new possibilities in minimizing environmental impact, and providing free access to high quality fitness equipment in outdoor spaces. The solid design seems to stand up to the elements, while the organic shape makes it attractive as well. The designers are to be especially commended for the extreme durability of the design for public spaces. Bike Arm
The KOMPAN Arm Bike offers an intense upper body workout. Designed to be inclusive, the Arm Bike has been developed to offer a highly versatile, fully functional and wheelchair accessible solution that can be used while standing or seated. Users also have the option of tailoring their workouts to ten resistance levels, making each workout effective.

The Good Design Awards jury said, “Self-powered fitness equipment that can be connected to smart devices is an important development in this industry. This development opens up real possibilities for reducing the environmental footprint, improving end-of-life recycling and providing free access to quality fitness. equipment outside of an indoor gym environment.

“This rugged design seems to outlast the elements, but it’s still an eye-catching eye. It is particularly unique to have a product that provides users of all ages and abilities with three user positions; from a wheelchair, standing or sitting on the ergonomic seat. The KOMPAN team found an excellent solution. All in all a standout project that ticks all the boxes for a great design in this category. Well done.”

The 2021 Good Design Awards attracted a record number of entries with 933 design projects. Each entry was assessed against a strict set of design assessment criteria, including good design, design innovation, and design impact. Australian Good Design Award-winning projects demonstrate professional design excellence and highlight the impact of a design-driven approach on business success and social and environmental outcomes.
